Not sure where they were for, but the tub has these pieces of pipe/tubing welded around the topside. They might have been for some kind of hoop structure to allow for fixed canvas top. But they have no value at only a half inch high, so I'm going to remove them. The sawzall will get the job done.
Here's a wide shot showing the four I'm going after first.I cut them off quickly, trying to get as flush as I can without going too deeply into the tub structure itself. I mostly succeeded.
A little too aggressive on this one. Plus, the sawzall isn't exactly a precision tool.
After grinding the remainders down, I did a little repair welding to keep things solid and secure.
More grinding to find pinholes in my flux-core welds.
This one was the most aggressive of the cuts. I needed to weld the tub to the vertical rail that helps hold the tailgate opening solid.
Booger welds to hold things up.A few pits to fill, but it's solid.
